What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave is a non-invasive technology that delivers sound waves to afflicted areas of the body and aids speedy recovery

How does Shockwave Therapy work?

ESWT delivers impulses of high energy targeted sound waves to specific damaged tissues, increasing blood flow and removing scar tissue within the affected area, and therefore stimulating cell regeneration and accelerating healing.

Shockwave Therapy is safe

ESWT has (National Institute of Clinical Excellence), NICE guidelines for a large number of indications and is used within the NHS.

Research is mounting behind this cutting-edge treatment, so much so that Shock Wave Therapy is one of the few modalities recommended by NICE. (National Institute of Clinical Excellence).

Shockwave Therapy performed by qualified therapists is largely risk-free.

Is Shockwave Therapy painful?

You may experience some discomfort during treatment but the pain should be tolerable. Due to the analgesic effect of Shockwave Therapy, many patients report immediate pain relief following treatment.

If you experience pain after treatment, you may use ordinary non-prescription pain killers such as paracetamol. Do not use anti-inflammatory medication or ibuprofen as both may interfere with the body’s self-healing processes.

How many sessions are needed?
This varies upon the condition being treated. As a general rule 5 - 6 treatments are advised.
As ESWT encourages the body to heal itself, your body will progress in the healing process even 2 – 3 months after treatment has stopped.

How successful is the treatment?

Statistics vary based upon the condition being treated; varying from 60 to 90% success rate. Studies have shown 90% of patients with Achilles tendinitis (Heel pain) will experience a full recovery or significant reduction in the pain and injury.

Can Shockwave treat old or persistent injuries?

Shockwave can treat both long-term chronic conditions and newer injuries, there is a great deal of evidence to show that Shockwave Therapy can achieve great results even with historical conditions.
